Mr. Scalise was born in Des Moines, Iowa, April 25, 1933; admitted to bar, 1958, Iowa ; also admitted to practice before U.S. Supreme Court, 8th Circuit Court of Appeals, and all Iowa Federal Courts.

Mr Scalise is a life long resident of the State of Iowa. He attended Dowling High School graduating in 1951.

Preparatory and legal education, University of Iowa (B.A. 1955; LL.B., 1958). Fraternity: Phi Delta Phi. Blackstone Inn of Court (Master of the Bench, 1989).

Assistant County Attorney , Polk County, 1959-61. Director, Law Enforcement Division, Iowa Liquor Control Commission, 1963. Attorney General, Iowa 1965-67. In 1967, Mr. Scalise formed the law firm of Scalise Scism Gentry and Brick. That firm evolved over the years into Scalise scism Gentry Brick and Brick, Scalise Scism Sandre and Uhl and ultimately Scalise Scism Sandre, Uhl and McConville. In 1993, Mr. Scalise along with other members of the firm merged with the Smith Wimer Schneider Stiles firm where Mr. Scalise remained until 1995. In that year Mr. Scalise left Des Moines and accepted an assignment with the Federal Government becoming the Deputy Independent Counsel in the matter of Henry Cisneros the then Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Mr. Scalise participated in the successful prosecution of Mr. Cisneros. In the year 2000, Mr. Scalise returned to Des Moines and joined the firm of Sullivan and Ward where he was Of Counsel for 7 years and participated in the trial of business matters, white collar crime defense, personal injury matters and other disciplines. In 2007 he became a shareholder in the firm of Coppola, McConville, Coppola, Hockenberg and Scalise and remains in that position.

Mr. Scalise has engaged in public service in a variety of endeavors for the State of Iowa being appointed to various commissions, by Republican and Democrat Governors, all of which were part time positions.

He became the Vice-Chairman, Campaign Finance Disclosure Commission, 1974-77. Chairman, Iowa State Racing and Gaming Commission, 1983-88. Deputy, Independent Counsel, Office of Independent Counsel in re: Cisneros matters, Washington D.C. , September 1995-2002.

Mr. Scalise also served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mercy Hospital, Des Moines Iowa 1990-1996.

He became a Certified Mediator by the American Academy of ADR Attorneys in 2004 and is now a volunteer Settlement Master/Mediator for the Superior Court of Santa Barbara, in Santa Barbara California.

Mr. Scalise is married to Mary C. Scalise and has 7 children, and 14 grand children, Mr. Scalise and his wife have a home in Santa Barbara, California but he is now and will always be a resident of Iowa and of course is an Iowa Hawkeye!
